Franconia Land Use Committee (online-only)

Monday, October 21, 2024 The Franconia Land Use Committee will be meeting prior to the Public Hearings to make recommendations on the SSPAs. The Committee can recommend that the Planning Commission and the Board adopt the language drafted by staff, that it adopt different language drafted by the Committee, or that that they not change the Plan language currently in effect. The plan amendments, 2023-IV-6S (Springfield Boulevard) and 2023-IV-7S (Amherst Avenue), include these proposed land use changes: 

  • An option for mixed-use development to include up to 732 multi-family residential units
  • 9,000 SF of ground floor non-residential use subject to guidelines to address consolidation, site design and building design, accommodation of transportation improvements, street scape and parks, and open space
  • An option for Tax Map Parcel 80-4 ((1)) to be planned as publicly-accessible open space or as a public park

Public Hearings The Planning Commission makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors (BOS). The BOS makes the final land-use decisions.

  • The Planning Commission Public Hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 7:30 pm.
  • The Board of Supervisors Public Hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 4:00 pm.
